Wacky Watermelons
Materials Needed:
- Sandtastik® Air Dry Modeling Clay
- Sculpey® Clay Starter 3pc Tool Kit
- Clay Roller Kit
- Plastic wrap
- Circle Shape Cutter
- Sponge
- Water bowl
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brush
- Sealant
Lovely Longneck
Step 1
Shape
Roll a large sphere out of clay. Flatten it into a thick circle using the palm of a hand.
Cover the clay with plastic wrap and lightly roll over the clay with the rolling pin to smooth out any bumps in the clay.
Press the circle shape cutter into the thick clay.
Remove the excess clay from around the shape cutter.
Step 2
Divide
Cut the circle shape in half using the knife tool. Divide one of the halves into 2 quarters.
Step 3
Rind
Lightly indent the circle shape cutter into the bottom of each clay sections to create the watermelon’s rind.
Step 4
Smooth
Smooth each clay section using a damp sponge.
Step 5
Face
Create a facial expression by drawing or adding on additional clay pieces.
Step 6
Dry
Allow the clay to dry for 24 hours.
Step 7
Paint
Paint the clay using the fruit’s realistic colors.
Watermelon Trinket Dishes
Step 1
Circle Shape
Flatten a 1/4” piece of clay using the Rolling Pin Kit.
Cover the slab of clay with plastic wrap. Press the circle shape cutter firmly into the clay.
Remove the access clay.
Step 2
Drape Mold
Cover a small bowl with plastic wrap. Drape the circle shape over the bottom of the bowl form.
Step 3
Smooth
Use a damp sponge to smooth out any bumps in the clay.
*NOTE: The clay can also be placed inside the bowl for a deeper dish.
Step 4
Dry
Allow the clay to stiffen up, then remove the clay from the drape mold.
Dry the shallow clay dish for at least for 24 hours. The tan colored clay will turn whitish and have a chalky texture when it is fully dried out.
Step 5
Paint
Paint the clay using the fruit’s realistic colors.
Step 6
Sealant
After the acrylic paint has dried, apply 2-3 layers of sealant to give the dish a shiny finish.
