SIO-2® PCLI - Stoneware Paper Clay
4 lb (1.8 kg) Sample
Stoneware paper clay with 30% impalpable grog 0-0.2 mm (up to 80 Mesh). Formulated for artistic ceramics, it is unique for modelling, thanks to its exceptional plasticity. It is especially suitable for making impossible shapes with difficult drying. The presence of paper fibres inside avoid formation of cracks and problems of deformations, and leads PCL clay to surprising artistic possibilities. Odourless. Available in extruded body (moist form).

(*) Firing range recommended for the clay to develop its best performance, both in terms of technical and safety characteristics, under conventional firing conditions. The colour samples may show temperatures outside the recommended range to provide a broader view, but these are pieces fired under controlled conditions. Cone equivalence according to Orton table for self-supporting cones, regular-SSB and 150ºC/hr heating rate.
FAQ for PCLI clay, with answers provided by SIO-2®
Is the PCLI good for making tall and flat pieces? Will it slump? Would you recommend another paper clay for this application?
The fibers in PCLI clay favor drying, since they act as a union within the clay and, at the same time, facilitate a uniform evacuation of water. This allows making pieces with very thin thicknesses, which, with another type of clay, would easily crack. However, to make very tall and flat pieces, the most important thing is the plasticity and consistency of the clay, more than its ease of drying. PCLI behaves very well compared to other clays, but it will depend on how tall and flat the piece is.
