Supplies Needed:
- SIO-2® PRAI White Stoneware Clay, TOFFEE Carmel Stoneware Clay, or BERLIN Grey Stoneware Clay with Impalpable Grog.
- Rolling pin
- 1/4” measuring sticks
- Plastic wrap
- Needle clay tool
- Circle cutters
- OPTIONAL: Textured roller and stamps
- Clay hole cutter
- Sponge
- Water bowl
- Mid fire glazes
- Brush
- Scissors
- Cord, string, or chain
Step 1
Clay Slab
Roll out a 1/4” slab of clay using a rolling pin and measuring sticks.
*OPTION: Clay slab can be left smooth or textured using additional texture rollers.
Step 2
Clay Rings
Cover the clay slab with plastic wrap.
Cut out a variety of different sizes of circles using the circle cutters.
Cut a smaller diameter circle inside each of the larger cut circles to form ring shapes.
Remove the excess clay from around the ring shapes.
Separate the ring shapes.
Step 3
Inside Circles
Smaller circle shapes maybe cut to fit inside the large ring shapes.
Decorative designs can be made by indenting individual textured stamps into the clay.
Cut designs out of the clay using the circle cutters and remove excess clay.
Step 4
String Holes
Use a clay hole cutter to make string holes for each wall hanging piece.
*OPTIONAL: Beads can be made by rolling small clay spheres and punching a hole through the center of the spheres.
Step 5
Dry
Allow clay to fully dry. Drying time will vary depending on temperature and humidity.
Step 6
Bisque Fire
Fire the clay bowl in the kiln to cone 04.
Bisque: Cone 04 (1915ºF)
Step 7
Glaze
Apply glaze to the bisque bowl according to manufacturer’s directions
Step 8
Glaze Fire
Fire the glazed piece in the kiln. Follow manufacturer’s firing guidelines.
Firing range: Cone 6-10 (2269º-2381ºF)
Step 9
String Together
Arrange clay pieces in desired order.
Use cord or string to tie the clay shapes together.
Use an open clay shape or add a loop at the top of the wall hanging so it can hang on the head of a nail.
