Materials Needed:
- Hearty Soft Clay
- Sculpey® Clay Starter 3pc Tool Kit
- Water Bowl
- Paints
- Paint Brush
Step 1
Body
Roll a large sphere of clay.
Lightly tap the sphere on the work surface to slightly flatten the bottom.
Step 2
Legs
Roll a thick coil of clay.
Cut the coil into four short pieces.
Attach the pieces one at a time to the bottom of the body shape using a small amount of water.
Smooth the ends of each leg using wet fingertips.
Step 3
Head
Roll a large teardrop shape out of clay.
Attach it to the body shape in the opposite direction of the legs.
Step 4
Tail
Roll a small teardrop shape of clay.
Attach it to the body shape in the opposite direction of the head.
Step 5
Border
Roll a thin coil of clay.
Lightly wet the entire coil and attach it to the bottom edge of the body shape.
Step 6
Mouth
Cut a large opening on the head with the knife tool to create the animal’s mouth.
Step 7
Eyes
Roll two tiny spheres of clay.
Attach each sphere to the animal’s head using a little bit of water.
Poke each sphere once with the pointy ended clay tool.
Step 8
Shell
Indent a hexagon pattern into the animal’s body using the clay knife tool.
Step 9
Dry
Allow the clay to dry and become harder.
Step 10
Paint
Paint the sculpture using paints.
