Materials Needed:
- Sandtastick® Air Dry Modeling Clay - White
- Clay Roller Kit
- Sculpey® Clay Starter 3pc Tool Kit
- Plastic wrap
- Star shape cutter
- Drinking straw
- Water bowl
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brush
- Gold string
Step 1
Preparing The Clay
Roll out a:
1/4” thick slab of clay for star ornaments and/or 1” thick slab of clay for star stand alone.
Step 2
Star
Cover the slab of clay with plastic wrap. Firmly press down the star cutter into the clay. Gently remove the excess clay from around the star shape.
Cut out the desired amount of star ornaments or stand alone stars from a single slab of clay.
Step 3
Hook
Use the end of the drinking straw to cut away a circle shaped opening to insert the ornament’s hook. Leave the clay solid for the stand alone star.
Step 4
Face
Create a face by adding on clay or indenting the clay. Score and slip pieces on top of the star shape.
LEARN: Scoring is scratching the edges of clay before joining them together. Slip is liquid clay used to join pieces of clay together like glue. Do this scoring technique on all the parts that are put together. This will help keep the pieces from falling apart when they dry.
Draw into the clay using the pointed tool. The back of the pointed tool makes great circle indentations.
LEARN: Indent means to form deep recesses in a surface.
Step 5
Balance
Sit the stand alone star up. Move it around until the entire sculpture can sit evenly on the table top without falling over. Leave it standing during the drying process.
Step 6
Dry
Allow the clay to dry 24 hours before painting.
Step 7
Paint
Use the acrylic paint to paint the star sculptures.
Step 8
String
Insert the string into the hole at the top of the star and knot the ends together.
